In this workshop you’ll start to make your own pair of Toe-Up Socks. These are a really popular option for sock knitting, as you can try your socks on as you go – to ensure a perfect fit. Ultimate Learn To Knit Socks Workshop (Toe-Up Socks)

Date: Thurs 15th June 2023

Time: 10AM

Location: Knit Happens Bodmin

In this Ultimate Learn To Knit Socks Workshop you’ll start to make your own pair of Toe-Up Socks. These are a really popular option for sock knitting, as you can try your socks on as you go – to ensure a perfect fit. You can also easily calculate yarn usage and never run out of yarn on the second foot. Plus this method avoids the need to use “Kitchener Stitch” at the Toe!

During the workshop you will learn how to cast-on from at the toe and increase up from the toe, to the width of the foot, using the “Magic Loop Method”.

An 80cm circular needle and a ball of sock yarn is included with the workshop.  You can also opt to switch to a small circumference needle from the end of the toe onwards if you wish. These can be purchased on the day from Knit Happens.

You will then learn the correct point to stop knitting the foot section and create the heel shaping. We will also guide you through how to make a “German Short Row Heel’ and shown a stretchy “Cast-Off” method for the end of the cuff.

You will also have the benefit of being able to refer back to Wendy’s YouTube videos during the workshop or at home, if you need to check back or refresh yourself with any of the techniques learned afterwards.

The pattern included with the workshop includes the same pattern and fit for both a Toe-Up Sock and a Cuff-Down Sock. So your second sock can be either another Toe-Up Sock, or a traditional Cuff-Down Sock and will still match, the choice is yours!
